Despite getting her break on a US talent show and shooting to stardom as the Pussycat Dolls’ frontwoman, Nicole Scherzinger‘s solo career has yet to finds its feet Stateside – and she’s ready to put that right in the New Year.
The star’s first solo album, Her Name Is Nicole, was completely shelved when its singles failed to do the business, and despite yielding a UK No1 in the amazing ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’, 2011’s banger-filled Killer Love was never actually released in North America either.
So it’s only now with her new record Big Fat Lie that she’s ready to fully launch herself as an individual entity in her homeland. After peaking inside the Top 20 in the UK last month, it’s set to be released across the pond in early 2015 – and the former X Factor judge is more than ready for it. “It’s my debut album in the US, it’s so exciting,” she told Hollywire. “It’s been a thousand years in the waiting! I wanted to get it right; everything right in its own time.

“The entire album… it’s such a singles-driven world, and this is the first time I’ve worked with one producer-writer team, so it’s a real body of work. It’s a real collection of pieces; it’s a reflection of many different sides of me, but it’s just honest. Fans will really get to know me through my music.”
While ‘Your Love’ was the big first single internationally, the US were gifted with power-ballad ‘Run’ to kick the campaign off. “It’s honest,” she said of the song. “In this day and age, I think that’s what people connect with, is honesty. And I think the song is so relatable; so many people – even though it comes from a broken place and it is vulnerable, so many people can find strength from this song.”

‘Run’ is also being serviced as the star’s next UK single, and was performed on The X Factor last weekend to strongly positive feedback from viewers – who now seem keen for her to return to the judging panel in 2015. But around her US release and her upcoming gig in London’s West End in Cats, she’s definitley got her work cut out if she’s going to find room in her diary!

Katy Perry, Nicole Scherzinger, Idris Elba, and David Guetta are among dozens of stars today launching the biggest sing-along in history – and you’re invited to join them.

The celebrities feature in an extraordinary music video singing John Lennon’s classic Imagine.

Taking it in turns to sing lines from the song, they’re joined by Courteney Cox, Rumer Willis, Angelique Kidjo, Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra and model Suki Waterhouse.

Even UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joins in, accompanied by a choir.

The video spearheads a global campaign by UNICEF to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UNICEF was given permission by Yoko Ono to launch #IMAGINE, which offers millions of people the chance to record their own versions of the Lennon classic using an iPhone and iPad app – and you even get to place yourself inside the video alongside the A-listers.

Inside the app, they’ll see where around the world other people have recorded their versions of Imagine and will be invited to record their own.

Using voice activation, the app captures you singing and inserts you into the campaign’s launch video alongside John Lennon and the celebrity supporters – it’s like a music video selfie.

Each version shared will form part of a new remix of Imagine by David Guetta, to be released on iTunes on New Year’s Eve 2014.

Nicole Scherzinger also features in the video. The video spearheads a global campaign by UNICEF to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

Even if there are 10 million recordings, the DJ says he’ll include them all in the unique track.

‘I’m really excited to be working with UNICEF on this incredible new project. Our ‘world’ version of Imagine will be like no other – I am proud to be a part of this collaboration,’ said Guetta.

‘We have to get the word out that every voice counts and every child counts too.’

The campaign – believed to be UNICEF’s biggest ever global campaign – launches later today with a live performance of the song at the United Nations General Assembly, by all 250 national, regional, and global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, including Hugh Jackman, Yoko Ono, David Guetta and Angelique Kidjo.

Commenting on the campaign, Yoko Ono said: ‘A dream you dream alone may be a dream, but a dream two people dream together is a reality.’

Also among the 56 performers in the campaign video are Craig David, former Voice UK coach Danny O’Donoghue, Sudanese refugee turned supermodel Mari Malek, Australian singer Cody Simpson and actors David Arquette, Eric Christian Olsen, Seth Green, Dianna Agron, and Taye Diggs.

The video was produced by TouchCast, a New York-based video technology used by the BBC, and Emmy award-winning director Michael Jurkovac, who was behind the viral video sensation Yes We Can in support of Barack Obama’s 2008 Presidential campaign.

With #IMAGINE, UNICEF hopes to bring awareness to the fact that in many countries, children have to imagine having the basic human rights that allow others of their age to be children.

UNICEF hopes to inspire people to take action to fight for global children’s rights and raise funds via donations and iTunes royalties from the song’s purchase to finance their efforts.

Donations will be used to support UNICEF’s health, education and sanitation projects in 150 countries.

‘The Convention on the Rights of the Child asked us all to imagine a better world for children – and calls on all of us to make that vision a reality,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

‘The #IMAGINE project gives people across the globe a chance to join a global movement for children, lending their ideas, their visions and, not least, their voices to advance the rights of every child, everywhere.’

Participants are encouraged to share videos of ‘Imagine’ duets with the hashtags #IMAGINE and #EVERYVOICECOUNTS

A Night In With Olly Murs is a brand new one-off musical extravaganza with the award-winning singer.
In this one-hour entertainment special, Olly performs some of his best known hits, such as Dear Darlin’ and Heart Skips A Beat, as well as more recent material from his new album, Never Been Better, including new single Wrapped Up.
The Troublemaker singer is accompanied in the studio by a live band, and the show features exclusive celebrity appearances and amusing moments.

These include Olly and Nicole Scherzinger surprise photo-bombing some fans, Olly and comedian John Bishop having a lip sync battle, and Caroline Flack getting the surprise of her life when Olly tricks her into thinking cars can drive themselves!

Olly also pays a visit to a famous soap set, bumping into one of its well-known residents and appearing in his own scene, filmed especially for his show, but finds himself mistaken for a fellow singer.
On presenting his own show, the triple-platinum singer said: ‘I am so excited about doing my first TV special, it’s going to be an amazing night. The show will be great fun, packed with off the wall comic segments, surprises and, of course, music.’
In the lip sync battle, Olly’s songs are 5ive’s If Ya Getting’ Down and Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy.
John Bishop lip sync’s to I Will Survive, by Gloria Gaynor and YMCA, by Village People.
As he heads to Albert Square, Olly says: ‘Since I was a kid I have absolutely loved EastEnders.’
Bumping into Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) at the market, Olly explains to Alfie that he’s a singer and lists some of his songs.
Olly says to Alfie: ‘My Heart Skips A Beat…?’
To which Alfie responds: ‘Really? You wanna see a doctor cos that’s a murmur.’
Olly tries again: ‘Dance With Me Tonight…?’
Alfie replies: ‘Back off sunshine, I’m happily married.’
Alfie then says: ‘Course I know who you are, you’re the bloke who did ‘Tonight I don’t feel like doing anything, nothing at all….’
To which Olly says: ‘No, that’s Bruno Mars.’
How does it feel to have your own itv show?
It feels amazing, I’ve always wanted to have a special on TV and now I’ve got one! It was so much fun to record and I can’t wait for everyone to watch it.
Describe what viewers can expect?
It’s a really entertaining show, I think! There’s a great mix of live music and funny skits. I had my nine-piece band on stage to perform live with me, as I wanted the atmosphere to feel like you were at a gig. I played a few past singles, and the new one ‘Wrapped Up’ and an exclusive new album track. We also play an Earth, Wind & Fire medley, which was so much fun to perform. There are also parts with Caroline Flack, Nicole Scherzinger and John Bishop, as well as a cameo in EastEnders.
Do you think Caroline will ever speak to you again?
Ha ha, yes she is speaking to me again. She saw the funny side of it once she got over the shock.
How did recording the TV show differ from doing an arena gig? Was it more nerve-racking?
It was quite nerve-racking actually. The performing is the easy bit, I love being on stage, that’s the best part of my job. Holding your own show and presenting on your own, in between singing, was the hard bit! It was great to have a live audience in the studio to make me feel at home on the stage.
Was it a dream to appear in your very own scene in EastEnders?
Yes absolutely. I’ve watched the show since I can remember and my whole family are fans too. To get the chance to walk on to Albert Square was very surreal indeed.
